A familiar face will be returning to mid-Missouri as KMIZ announced that Marissa Hollowed is re-joining as evening co-anchor of ABC 17 News. KMIZ is the the News-Press & Gazette-owned ABC affiliate in Columbia, Mo.
Hollowed led KMIZ’s newscasts from 2014 to 2017 before leaving for KMOV St. Louis.
Hollowed will join ABC 17 News weeknights at 5, 6, 6:30, 9 and 10 p.m in early September. In addition to co-anchoring in the evenings, she will contribute to the station’s investigative unit.
Hollowed said she looks forward to once again digging into topics that are important to viewers and their families.
“I’m a mother now and raising a young family in Mid-Missouri,” Hollowed says. “The safety of this community is more important to me than ever. We all want to go home at night knowing the streets are safe, the trash is being picked up and the lights are going to work. I look forward to doing my part in bringing these stories to you once again.”
She is an Illinois native who graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri.
Hollowed has anchored newscasts in St. Louis and Paducah, Ky., in addition to her previous stint at KMIZ.
She is a two-time winner of the Missouri Broadcasters Association award for Best News Anchor.
“Marissa has proven herself time-and-time-again at the anchor desk and in the field,” says Scott Flannigan, KMIZ’s news director. “She’s reported on some of our area’s most important stories of the last decade and we couldn’t be getting a better person to help take us through the important stories for the next several years.”
