WJBF, Nexstar’s ABC affiliate in Augusta, Ga., promoted John Hart, co-anchor of WJBF’s 4:30, 5:30 and 10 p.m, newscasts, to oversee the news department.
WJBF, Nexstar’s ABC affiliate in Augusta, Gaa., has nameed John Hart, co-anchor for WJBF’s 4:30, 5:30 and 10 p.m, newscasts, the station’s news director.
He replaces Scott Elledge, who served as news director for more than 27 years, recently leaving WJBF to take on a corporate role with Bahakel Communications.
Hart has been recognized numerous times for his journalistic standards with awards from the AP, Georgia Association of Broadcasters and several local Emmy nominations.
“It was not easy to fill the shoes of our outgoing news manager Scott Elledge, someone that was passionate about our newsroom and this community,” says Bill Stewart, WJBF’s GM. “But to be able to promote John into this role and know that we have someone with the same dedication to see this newsroom continue its success while preparing and guiding it into the future is something I am thrilled about, and I am glad John is eager to start this new phase of his career.”
Hart has worked at WJBF since 2000, first as weekend sports anchor, followed by sports director before moving over to news in 2009.
In addition to his anchoring duties, Hart has served as producer and play-by-play announcer for WJBF’s weekly live high school football games every fall for many years and has served as executive producer and host of the award-winning show Tee Time Augusta.
“While I will miss bringing our viewers the news on a daily basis here at WJBF, I am excited about having an even bigger voice in our news operation,” Hart says.
