Just this month, it has made another $50,000 donation to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. The contribution is part of Nexstar Media Group’s ongoing four-year $2 million partnership with the nonprofit.
In August, Nexstar stations serving Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia donated $25,000 to the Kentucky Flood Relief Fund of the Christian Appalachian Project. The donation caps a 10-day fundraising drive that helped generate more than $300,000 to assist victims of the recent floods that have devastated eastern Kentucky.
In March, the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and all of the Nexstar Media stations serving West Virginia, donated $25,000 to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. WVU Medicine Children’s is the state’s largest and most experienced group of pediatric primary care physicians and specialists.
In February, the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and WANE Fort Wayne, Ind., donated $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana in celebration of the organization’s 50-year anniversary. The group develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people – particularly youth from disadvantaged socioeconomic demographics. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana was founded in 1972 and has programs operating in 12 counties throughout Northeast Indiana and Southern Michigan.
In April, the Nexstar Foundation and its WIVT and WBGH in Binghamton, N.Y.,, donated $5,000 to the United Way of Broome County, N.Y. The donation helps fund the organization’s initiative designed to bring corporations and businesses together to ensure that children, families, and seniors in the area have enough to eat. Importantly, 100% of all contributions to this initiative will go to community-based hunger and food insecurity programs and services in the county.
In July, the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and Nexstar’s WTEN Albany, N.Y., donated $15,000 to the Center for Disability Services, one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals with disabilities. The donation is designed to recognize WTEN’s long association with the center, and assist the organization in with its ongoing work.
In June, the Nexstar Charitable Foundation and Nexstar’s WTAJ Johnstown-Altoona, Pa., donated $9,000 to the Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association to assist with basic classroom training for firefighting and rescue personnel and with the purchase of a Smart Rescue Dummy for use in training and certification tests. The Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association traces its origins back to 1922, and currently represents 58 fire departments in five counties in West Central Pennsylvania.
In July, the Nexstar Foundation and Nexstar’s KSWB San Diego donated $10,000 to the Armed Services YMCA San Diego. The donation will assist in providing social, educational, and recreational programs to meet the needs of more than 170,000 military service members and their families living in San Diego and southern California.
In April, The Nexstar Charitable Foundation and Nexstar’s KCAU Sioux City, Iowa, donated $5,000 to the Iowa Chapter of the ALS Association in support of KCAU’s seventh annual “Rockin’ for a Cure” benefit concert. The mission of the Iowa chapter of the ALS Association, as it is for all local chapter of the organization, is to assist in the discovery of treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest.
In August, the Nexstar Foundation and Nexstar’s KCLO Rapid City, S.E., donated $5,000 to Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board. The funds will be used to assist in the group’s vision for all tribal nations and communities in the Great Plains to reach optimum health and wellness through lasting partnerships with health organizations and embrace culturally significant values that are empowered by tribal sovereignty.
Also in August, the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and Nexstar’s WHTM Harrisburg, Pa., donated $5,000 to the Harrisburg Area Police Athletic League (HAPAL). HAPAL provides a wide variety of free or low-cost programs and activities that initiate and nourish active learning throughout the year for children ages 6-18. The donation will be used to provide grants to college-bound graduating seniors for the next five years.
