KMBC 9 Cares for Kids’ mission is to connect the ABC affiliate’s viewers with local nonprofits providing resources, support and opportunities to help children reach their full potential and achieve success.
KMBC, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate serving Kansas City, raised more than $287,000 through its KMBC 9 Cares for Kids initiative in 2023.
All of the proceeds go directly to five partner, nonprofit organizations working to improve the lives of children in Kanas and Missouri: Giving the Basics, HappyBottoms, KVC Health Systems, Lead to Read KC, and Operation Breakthrough. Fundraising events were targeted to help these groups provide long-term, sustainable solutions to the problems facing children across the Kansas City area.
“We ended 2023 with hearts full of hope and appreciation of everyone who responded to the needs of children by donating or volunteering,” says Justin Antoniotti, KMBC’s general manager. “Compassion for others and a willingness to help are qualities that are woven into this community and make it better.”
“We are truly heartened by the overwhelming support KMBC 9 Cares for Kids has received,” says Kim Rupe, KMBC’s director of community partnerships. “Together with our compassionate Kansas City community and dedicated partners, we’ve succeeded in not only raising funds but also bolstering awareness for the transformative work being done to enhance the lives of children in our area.”
