KUSA, branded as 9News, Tegna’s NBC affiliate in Denver, organized the community to raise funds for Colorado pantries.
As part of the station’s 9Cares Colorado Shares project, the station, along with its local partners like King Soopers, raised more than $800,000 in four weeks, enough to provide more than 2.4 million meals to people in need. All funds benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies and pantries throughout Colorado. This is the 41st year of the program.
Kyle Clark, KUSA anchor, and Jesse Ogas, KUSA’s director of social responsibility and community affairs, worked together to support 9Cares Colorado Shares.
Since June 2020, Kyle Clark, KUSA’s anchor for Next with Kyle Clark, which airs weeknights at 6, has produced a weekly “Word of Thanks” to highlight small and medium nonprofits doing crucial work in Colorado.
The routine is simple. Each week, Clark presents a new organization he’d like to highlight and asks viewers to consider just $5. He matches the first 50 donations of $5 every time.
Since the beginning “Word of Thanks,” Clark and the 9NEWS viewers have raised more than $10 million together.
