The annual If You Give a Child a Book … campaign has distributed more than 500,000 books since its launch in 2016.
Since its launch in 2016, the Scripps Howard Foundation’s “If You Give a Child a Book …” childhood literacy campaign has generated in excess of 90 million reading minutes through its donation of more than 500,000 new books to economically at-risk children who live in communities served by Scripps businesses.
“Never has our mission to create a fully informed world through journalism education, improving childhood literacy and giving back to Scripps communities been more important than it was in 2020,” says Liz Carter, the foundation’s president and chief executive officer.
The Scripps Howard Awards are accepting entries for its 66th competition starting on Dec. 1. “Steeped in the proud tradition of the free press, the Scripps Howard Awards pay tribute to the dedicated journalists who pursue the truth with tenacity, honesty and courage,” said Liz Carter, Scripps Howard Foundation president.
