WSFA, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Montgomery, Ala., went above and beyond to help a nonprofit in its community. First, in January, the station donated a 40,000 square-foot building to Mercy House. Then last month, WSFA held a one-day telethon that raised more than $300,000 for the organization.
WSFA, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Montgomery, Ala., went above and beyond to help a nonprofit in its community.
First, in January, the station donated a 40,000 square-foot building to Mercy House, which provides spiritual, social and educational services to people in need.
The building was the home of WSFA for 65 years until the station moved into its new studios in March.
Here’s a Facebook Live from Bethany Davis, a WSFA reporter who’s worked at the station since 2000, from what used to be the old WSFA newsroom.

At the time, Mark Bunting, WSFA’s general manager, said to the leadership at Mercy House: “By acquiring this building, you are now part of the WSFA family.”
In October, WSFA held a one-day telethon that raised more than $300,000 for Mercy House.
The goal of the event was to help Mercy House Ministries raise support funds, add volunteer staff and generate awareness of the difference the organization is making.
Since 2004, Ministry About People (MAP) and Mercy House have been serving the people of Central Alabama through many community programs — providing meals, clothing, shelter, job training, family services and hope to thousands in the community.

“The telethon accomplished all the goals that were identified before the event – awareness for Mercy House and their daily work in our community, monetary donations and getting additional volunteers,” says Scott Duff, WSFA’s news director. “I will say — and have said many times — our goal every day in our newscasts is to hopefully make a difference in our community.”

Their old studios were located in a really, really rough part of Montgomery. It wouldn’t surprise me if employees didn’t feel safe coming to work every day or especially @ night & let their feelings/concerns known.
Guessing WSFA got a sweetheart deal to relocate to the Retirement Systems of Alabama Tower Building in Downtown Montgomery. The RSA Tower Building just happens to be located a few short blocks from the Alabama State Capitol & Legislative offices.
