WJZY, Nexstar’s Fox affiliate in Charlotte, N.C., aired a 2-minute promo during halftime of Tuesday night’s NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Football Team, a coveted time slot in which to get any airtime, but especially to get 2 minutes.
The spot teases some big changes coming to the station in January.
“Given our increased news presence and leadership position in news hours produced, we felt this was the right time to double down on our commitment to the local market,” says Lloyd Bucher, WJZY’s GM. “Carolinas’ Own Queen City News is a brand meant to highlight our broad commitment to Charlotte and the Carolinas overall, and we believe it highlights our renewed commitment to our community. Also, it is meant to highlight our news objectivity and hyperlocal focus and eliminate any confusion to any national cable news brands.”
