Throughout March, Nexstar’s stations have been spotlighting local women who inspire, lead and forge the way for other women. Nexstar received more than 10,000 nominations for the honor, based on criteria including community contributions, self-achievement and family impact.
Now in its fourth year, Nexstar’s nationwide initiative, “Remarkable Woman of the Year,” has named Mona Highline of Grand Junction, Colo., as the winner.
In recognition of the honor, Highline will receive $10,000 from the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation to contribute to the public service organization or charity of her choice.
Highline was recognized for her work with the homeless in Colorado, as founder and executive director of the Joseph Center, a nonprofit community outreach center in Grand Junction.
“Remarkable Woman of the Year” is part of Nexstar’s celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, and is designed to honor the influence that women have had on public policy, social progress and the quality of life in the United States.
Throughout March, Nexstar’s stations have been spotlighting local women who inspire, lead and forge the way for other women.
Nexstar’s initiative kicked-off earlier this year, with its stations accepting nominations.
Nexstar received more than 10,000 nominations based on criteria including community contributions, self-achievement and family impact.
The company’s television stations each selected four local women to be considered as that market’s “Remarkable Woman.” Profiles of the four nominees in each market aired on the local newscasts of Nexstar stations each week throughout March, and the nominees were featured on the stations’ websites.
To celebrate their accomplishments, the winners of the local market competitions were flown to Los Angeles this past weekend where they enjoyed a poolside reception at the Lowes Hollywood Hotel catered by Wolfgang Puck, a tour of Hollywood and a special “Remarkable Women” presentation at the historic TCL Chinese Theater.
Highline and six other finalists will be featured in an hour-long special program airing on Nexstar’s stations across the country throughout April, and on Nexstar’s cable news network, NewsNation, on April 16 at 10 a.m. ET.
