The Gray Media Training Center program at WLBT gives hands-on training to college students while learning best practices for a career in broadcast and digital journalism.

WLBT, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Jackson, Miss., handed out diplomas to 11 students from colleges across the state for completing the spring 2023 Gray Media Training Center program at a graduation ceremony on May 3.
The program at WLBT gives hands-on training to college students while learning today’s best practices for a career in broadcast and digital journalism.
These students were selected in January to undergo 15 weeks of in-depth training in news production, as well as all areas of television, including marketing, sales, and technology.
With a focus on students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Mississippi, the Gray Media Training Center at WLBT was designed to improve diversity in media and improve diversity in Gray Television.

“We look forward to continuing to help all our Training Center graduates reach their career goals,” says Michael A. White Jr., program director. “Not only do we enjoy training students, but we also make every effort to get them in front of hiring managers and into that first job of their career once they graduate from this program.”

“Our industry becomes more diverse with every class of students, and that’s the goal,” says Ted Fortenberry, WLBT’s general manager. “We’re so proud to have this opportunity to contribute to our industry in this way.”
The next class of Gray Media Training Center students at WLBT will begin their training program this summer.
