On Wednesday, Aug. 2, approximately 250 shelter cats and dogs will be put aboard charter planes headed to shelters in New Jersey and New Hampshire. The animals come from overpopulated shelters in Alabama, Florida and Louisiana, including harder-to-place or vulnerable pets, like dogs with asymptomatic heartworm, homeless cats and large dogs. It’s all made possible by NBC and Telemundo stations.
The shelters in New Jersey and New Hampshire will provide any needed medical care and place the pets for adoption.
What better way to celebrate the return of NBC and Telemundo stations’ annual pet adoption and donation campaign, which begins Tuesday, Aug. 1, than to organize a life-saving pet airlift mission?
NBCUniversal Local, Greater Good Charities, Hill’s Pet Nutrition and The Animal Rescue Site are partnering with Clear The Shelters for this special airlift.
On Aug. 2, a chartered plane is scheduled to depart Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport at approximately 5 a.m. ET and arrive at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey between 10:30 and 11 a.m., where a portion of the pets will be received by participating shelters from the region.
The plane will then travel to Boston-Manchester Regional Airport in New Hampshire to deliver the remaining pets to the receiving shelters in New England between noon and 1 p.m. Departure and arrival times are tentative and subject to change.
Since its 2015 inception, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters has helped more than 860,000 pets find new homes.
As part of NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters, NBC and Telemundo owned and affiliated stations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico are partnering with animal shelters and rescue services in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise needed funds. This year’s campaign will again feature online donations to participating shelters or rescues during the campaign at ClearTheSheltersFund.org.

The 2022 campaign established a new single-year record with more than 161,000 adoptions, while also raising more than $540,000. Nearly 1,400 animal shelters and rescues covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam participated in last year’s campaign.
Hill’s Pet Nutrition is a national sponsor of Clear The Shelters for the sixth straight year. Hill’s also supports shelter pets year-round through its Food, Shelter & Love program, providing science-led nutrition to feed pets in more than 800 shelters across North America. Since 2002, the Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love Program has provided more than $300 million in food to support pets in need and has helped more than 13 million shelter pets find new homes.
