Devin Scillian, a news anchor on WDIV in Detroit, shared how misinformation was being posted on various social media sites, and the station was being “so pushed and prodded to share disinformation.”
Devin Scillian, who anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. news on WDIV, Graham Media’s NBC affiliate in Detroit, tweeted about the flow of information in a fast-moving crisis in reaction to the station’s coverage of the Michigan State shooting.
In the tweet, Scillian shared how misinformation was being posted on various social media sites, and the station was being “so pushed and prodded to share disinformation.”
In the tweet, the text of which was posted on the station’s website, Scillian says that “while the news media has slowly but sensibly prioritized being right over being first, we do so in a digital atmosphere that allows information and disinformation to ping around the globe in the blink of an eye.”
