Rick Lewchuk, former CNN marketing head, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Promax Global Excellence Celebration and Connection in New York City on Dec. 7.
Lewchuk is in good company. Robert Redford, Brian Grazer, Marla Provencio, John Miller, Spike Lee, Debra Lee and Marshall Hites have all been honored with the award given to those who have demonstrated remarkable talent, dedication and passion in their respective careers.
“This award is decided upon through various avenues, by nomination, internal leadership and Board of Directors, who carefully consider a nominee’s impact, innovation, and enduring legacy in the entertainment industry,” says Stacy La Cotera, Promax president.
Lewchuk says after 45 years, it’s nice to reflect. “Everyone likes a pat on the back.”
Lewchuk founded his own company, Film at 11, after leaving CNN in 2022.
In a February 2023 Market Share column, Lewchuk says his company Film at 11 can help local TV news broadcasters. “I watch a lot of local news and it really is where my passion is because that’s where I began,” he says. “I am looking to give back.”
In a June, 2023 Market Share column, Lewchuk says he is working with several TV stations to help them with their news marketing, getting station management teams to focus “on what the most important thing is really, what is their A priority. We talk about focusing on where they need to have growth with right now. “What I find is the stations are trying to do too much,” he says, meaning too many different marketing messages on the air at the same time.
Lewchuk says this is probably one on his favorite spots produced during his time at CNN and is probably relatable for local news creatives. This spot won an Emmy.
While at CNN, his team was recognized as Promax’s Global Excellence Marketing Team of the Year for six years running.
Lewchuk began his career in local television and moved into promotions early on, progressing from a local station promotion manager to director of marketing for Baton Broadcasting, which at the time was the largest station group in Canada.
