WVTM, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Birmingham, brings back Jason Simpson to be the station’s meteorologist for its weekday evenings newscasts. “I’m eager to get back to the business of serving Central Alabama with the WVTM 13 team,” Simpson says.
WVTM, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Birmingham, Ala., has appointed Jason Simpson meteorologist for its weekday evenings newscasts at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Earlier in his career Simpson was a meteorologist at WBMA, the ABC affiliate in Birmingham.
“I’m eager to get back to the business of serving Central Alabama with the WVTM 13 team,” Simpson says. “My wife and I started our family in the Birmingham area over a decade ago. We eagerly anticipate coming back home, catching up with old friends, making new friends, and serving however and wherever we can in this community.”
Simpson was most recently a principal scientist for Dynetics Inc. in Hunstville, Ala., where he tested and analyzed radar systems. Prior to Dynetics, Simpson was the chief meteorologist at WHNT, the CBS affiliate in Huntsville, for more than a decade.
“We are excited about the opportunity to bring home a seasoned meteorologist who has been part of some of the most historic severe weather coverage in Alabama in decades,” says Susana Schuler, WVTM’s GM. “Jason’s knowledge of our community and storm tracking experience make him a perfect addition to our team of meteorologists.”
Jason Simpson starts Aug. 8, joining fellow meteorologists Jerry Tracey, Stephanie Walker, Adrian Castellanom and Harmony Mendoza.
“Timely, accurate forecasting is one of the most important things we do as local broadcasters,” says Baylor Long, WVTM’s news director. “Jason understands that responsibility and knows the dedication it takes to deliver lifesaving weather information using tools like WVTM 13’s live doppler radar.”
