WXIN, Nexstar’s Fox affiliate in Indianapolis, held a day-long “Pack the Pantries” event on Thursday, Nov. 17, with Financial Center First Credit Union to benefit two local food banks by encouraging viewers to donate either by texting, calling or via the station’s website.

“The number of families in central Indiana who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity is staggering,” says Dominic Mancuso, WXIN’s GM. “Pack the Pantries this year comes at a time of greatly increased need for our neighbors. Fox59 is a great champion of hunger relief, helping raise awareness and critical funds, and also promoting volunteerism.”
The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 each to two food banks serving the area as part of the “Pack the Pantries” project: Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and Midwest Food Bank of Indiana.
“Inflation has placed so many families in food crisis, some for the very first time,” says Marcie Luhigo, Executive Director at Midwest Food Bank. “Every monetary gift, prayer, and volunteer hour is mission critical to seeing that no Hoosier is hungry during this holiday season. Nexstar supporting us with Pack the Pantries on FOX59 and CBS4 is the shot in arm our community needs right now.”
This year’s event raised $64,215.
