John Deushane, WXIA’s general manager in Atlanta, retires today from the broadcast business after 47 years, 13 of which he’s been at the helm of Tegna station in Atlanta. “It’s been a true blessing to work with the talented journalists and professionals at 11Alive. The past 13 years have been more of a gift than a job,” said Deushane.

“It’s been a true blessing to work with the talented journalists and professionals at 11Alive. The past 13 years have been more of a gift than a job”, he said.
Under his leadership, WXIA was recognized with the following honors:
- 236 Southeast Emmy® Awards (including Overall Station Excellence 7 times)
- 3 National Emmy® Awards
- 49 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards
- 9 National Edward R. Murrow Awards
- 1 Peabody Award
- 1 duPont-Columbia Award
- 6 Georgia Association of Broadcasters Station of the Year recognitions
Deushane came to 11Alive/WXIA in June 2010 from his role as chief operating officer at Granite Broadcasting where he worked for 18 years.
He started his broadcasting career in 1976 at WEEK Peoria, Ill., where he would later become president and general manager. He also operated stations in Fresno, Calif.; Austin, Texas; and Columbia-Jefferson City, Mo.
Deushane has served on numerous Atlanta nonprofit boards including the Atlanta Business League, Cure Childhood Cancer, Junior League of Atlanta, North Point Community Church, and the Georgia Association of Broadcasters where he was chairman and recognized as the Broadcaster of the Year in 2016. He was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Deushane graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bradley University where he also served as an adjunct professor.
