So for the past 40 years, WDTN, Nexstar’s NBC, and WBDT, Dayton’s CW, have been collecting and distributing coats to less fortunate children and adults throughout the Miami Valley. Since the inception of the campaign, Coats for Kids has collected and distributed over 600,000 coats and winter accessories.
The coldest it’s ever been in Dayton, Ohio was -28 degrees. Winters average highs in the low 30s and lows in the low teens. Not the kind of weather you want to be outside without a coat, especially if you’re a kid.

And it’s time again for the Coats for Kids campaign running through Oct. 13 and sponsored by LCNB National Bank, Walmart and Catholic Social Services. In-kind partners include Cintas Corp. and RUSH Transportation and Logistics.
Coats for Kids asks Dayton area residents to take any new or washable coat or winter accessory to any sponsor location and place them in the Coats for Kids collection barrel. Cintas will then launder them and RUSH Transportation and Logistics will transport the coats, both at no charge.
Walmart will be donating $10,000 to Catholic Social Services in celebration of 40 years of WDTN and Dayton’s CW Coats for Kids campaign.
Walmart will also hold a Coats for Kids drive during the weekends of Sept. 29 and Oct. 6 at select Miami Valley Walmart locations.
Distribution Day will take place on Nov. 3, with details being announced in the coming weeks.
