The First Warn 5 Weather Show will debut on KCTV5 at 6:30 p.m. today, Monday, May 6, and will be a live, newscast-style show focused primarily on forecasting and the biggest weather headlines of the day.
KCTV, Gray Television’s CBS affiliate in Kansas City, is adding a new 30-minute show dedicated to the area’s ever-changing weather.
The First Warn 5 Weather Show will debut on KCTV5 at 6:30 p.m. today, Monday, May 6, and will be a live, newscast-style show focused primarily on forecasting and the biggest weather headlines of the day.
“Kansas City is truly a special place for weather, unlike nearly any other place in the world,” says Luke Dorris, KCTC’s chief meteorologist. “We are tremendously excited to serve our viewers with a weather show that gives them a forecast for their hometown, shares the fascinating science behind the storms, and is just exciting to watch.”
The First Warn 5 Weather Show will become the only show in Kansas City dedicated primarily to weather, the station says. It will be led by Dorris, with daily contributions from the four other members of the First Warn 5 Weather team.
The show will include a daily “5 Things You Need to Know” segment to provide viewers with a quick news update during the broadcast.
“Our commitment to weather has never been stronger,” says Josh Morgan, KCTV’s news director. “There is only one story each day that we know impacts every viewer who tunes in, so we have created a program tailor-made to tell that story in the most meaningful way possible.”
The First Warn 5 Weather Show replaces KC Sports Tonight at 6:30 p.m. KC Sports Tonight will move to the KCTV streaming platforms Monday through Friday at 5:30 p.m. The show will continue on KCTV every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 p.m.
