WYBN is the first new television station in the Albany, N.Y., region in more than a dozen years. Owned locally by Cable Ad Net New York, Dan Viles is the president.
It brands itself as the Catskills’ only locally owned and oerated TV station.
WYBN, broadcasting from high atop Windham Mountain in the Catskill Mountains of New York, is capable of reaching almost a million people in the upper Hudson Valley region.
Today, WYBN offers seven channels of diginet programming including Tuff-TV, Retro-TV, ThisTV, Rev’n, France 24, Family Channel, and Latin Alternative Television, (LATV).
The programming features news, sports, movies, sitcoms, classic TV shows and Latin programs.
Here’s an early promo from 2011.
When people want to see what’s going on in the Catskills, they put on WYBN.
And when advertisers want to reach that mountain audience, they want to be on WYBN.
Viles says local advertisers are becoming more aware of WYBN and the digital world.
“Three years ago when you called on a client about digital, they made a noise. Now, they put most of their money in digital.”
So last week, when a Market Share article called for examples of locally-produced TV commercials, Dan Viles sent some along.
“I have too many to choose from but I tried to get some variety,” said Viles.
When you live in the mountains, water is often pumped from wells. So having reliable pumps and good pump service is very important.
“The Claverack Pump has been on constantly since 2011 and their business has doubled over that time,” said Viles.
In this region, it’s all about local, especially when it comes to food.
“Bohringers Fruit Orchard’s spot is one of three and, likewise, TV has bounced their numbers,” said Viles.
“We try to cater to the unique product aspect of clients and present a believable spot that can air a lot but not get boring,” said Viles.
“No yelling, just telling.”
