NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters nationwide pet adoption campaign for 2021, which lasted from Aug. 23 to Sept. 19, led to more than 136,000 pets finding forever homes, and more than $537,000 has been donated to participating animal shelters and rescues as part of the campaign’s fundraising effort that remains in progress through Nov. 1.

To celebrate the launch of this year’s campaign, NBCUniversal Local, Greater Good Charities, The Animal Rescue Site and Hill’s Pet Nutrition partnered to conduct a special lifesaving pet airlift on Aug. 23.
The Clear The Shelters flight mission transported 167 at-risk dogs and cats from overpopulated shelters in New Orleans to Morristown, N.J., and New Bedford, Mass.
As part of the 2021 Clear The Shelters, NBC and Telemundo owned and affiliated stations covering 219 media markets in the U.S. and Puerto Rico partnered with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise funds to benefit animal welfare.

The 2021 Clear The Shelters reached more than 12.6 million people on social media. Social media mentions of Clear The Shelters/Desocupar Los Albergues received nearly 200,000 interactions.
On NBCUniversal Local’s digital platforms, Clear The Shelters content earned nearly 650,000 page views, and more than 7.8 million people were reached online through external platforms during the campaign.
