WWL-TV, Tegna’s CBS affiliate in New Orleans, is bringing back its unique, non-traditional sales campaign, Louisiana Made, Louisiana Proud.
“We are excited about this new relaunch of it,” says Lourdes Keiffer, WWL’s sales director. “The campaign is 38 years old.”
According to an August 2014 Market Share column, Louisiana Made, Louisiana Proud started in the late 1980s as a way to encourage local business development when the city was in the middle of the oil and gas crisis.
Keiffer says the timing is right to relaunch the campaign because WWL’s 65th anniversary is coming up this month.
“It’s a beautiful campaign,” she says. “We just wanted to modernize it a little bit.”
According to the stations sales literature, Louisiana Made, Louisiana Proud is a series of “corporate image oriented vignettes designed to highlight local companies, products, and services.”
The Louisiana Made, Louisiana Proud series of commercials is distinguished by the production of the spots, often 60-seconds in length, with sweeping photography and dissolves between shots resulting in an engaging image spot. No hard sell here.
Tod Smith, WWL’s general manager, says the spots gives local businesses the opportunity to tell their story.
“The format allows people to tell more in-depth about what they are about,” Keiffer says.
WWL kicked off the relaunch with a Louisiana Made, Louisiana Proud version about the station’s contribution to the area.
Over the years, the Louisiana Made, Louisiana Proud campaign featured more than 450 local commercials in almost every category imaginable, from car dealers to car repairs, from banks to exterminators, from high schools to universities, from hotels to hair dressers, from fast food to funeral parlors, from realtors to restaurants, from churches to construction.
“Most people just love watching them because they do tell a story that is uplifting about businesses that are entrenched in our area and our culture,” Keiffer says.
