WRC, the NBC O&O in Washington (DMA 7), held a fund drive on Thursday, April 16, that raised almost $50,000 in money and donations for local nonprofit organizations directly helping people through the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 60 group responded to an on-air call-out about how they are helping those in need during this time.
Those that qualified were added to a running list on the station’s website.
On Thursday, all WRC newscasts encouraged those who can give to find an organization to assist and referred those who needed some help to the same list.
The page was visited more almost 7,000 times over a few days.
The list has remained posted, and representatives from some of the organizations have been generous with praise:
Thanks again for your generous promotion of our good work at Catholic Charities. Our food pantries are direct beneficiaries of the generous donations received thanks in part to your encouragement.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for raising awareness for DASH [Domestic Alliance for Safe Housing] through the NBC4 Giveathon! These critical funds will help DASH keep our doors open to those who need us the most throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, while also keeping our staff, residents, and volunteers safe and healthy.
