NewsNet is a new 24/7 news channel delivering national and international news, weather and sports headlines. And viewers are liking it. “NewsNet is unbiased news, period. I have yet to see a story with any slant or opinions, just straight facts. Basically, it’s news how news is supposed to be. I highly recommend these guys,” wrote one viewer.
Viewers are liking NewsNet, the new 24/7 news channel launched on Jan. 1 for its unbiased, straight news reporting.
As Mathhew Eric wrote: “Just news, no opinion. Don’t change.”
“NewsNet is unbiased news, period,” writes Danny Hans, adding: “I have yet to see a story with any slant or opinions, just straight facts. Basically, it’s news how news is supposed to be. I highly recommend these guys.
NewsNet is a new 24/7 news channel delivering national and international news, weather and sports headlines every half hour. Most of the stations carrying it offer it on a subchannel.
I’m excited that you exist. We need this so badly. I’ll be watching. — David Butler, NewsNet Viewer
On its website, NewsNet promises headline news “eliminating the pundits, panels and ‘shout shows’ that have become so common on other channels.”
NewsNet is partnering with TV stations across the country to bring its service to viewers who have cut the cord, said Eric Wotila, NewsNet’s president.
According to Wotila, NewsNet has signed up 25 affiliates so far since it launched 28 days ago.
“For the most part we are working with stations with no or very little local news presence. We are talking to some stations which do have local news broadcasts, but want to supplement that with a 24 hour news channel. Through NewsNet, we offer room for the local affiliates to put a five minute local cut in every half hour. And we have a few stations that are looking at running us on one of their subchannels.”
I love your vision. It takes me back to the good old days of the original CNN Headline News. — Brad Pomerance, news anchor/reporter
One new customer, low-power WBYN Cobleskill, N.Y., and owned by Cable Ad Net New York, is the Catskill’s only locally owned and operated television station. The station signed on with NewsNet on Jan. 9.
“NewsNet offers an alternative to people who want to ‘cut the cord’ from cable but still have access to breaking news and weather 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Dan Viles, WYBN’s general manager.
NewsNet’s studios are located in Cadillac, Mich., where the company owns two stations, WMNN-LD and WXII-LP, a MyNetworkTV affiliate.
Wotila said NewsNet came about in part because of “the kind of backlash the traditional 24-hour news format, which is more talk and opinion and panel oriented. We have heard a lot of backlash from viewers that they are sick of that.”
NewsNet’s format, said Wotila, “is read a headline, do a minute-and-a-half on that story, move on to the next story. [That’s] basically our entire format.”
I hope this grows and grows. It’s nice to have a straight news broadcast. Similar feel to the old Headline News broadcast. — Mike Lupole, NewsNet Viewer
Wotila said the operation is very lean and mean. “We are very efficient with the resources. We have about a dozen people putting this together.”
And Wotila is pleased with the results so far in less than 30 days of operation.
“One of the main reasons people keep cable is for their sports and their 24 hour news. We felt that by putting a 24-hour news channel out there that people can get when they cut the cord, when they switch to an antenna, we are really filling the needs that is not filled by any of the other diginets. So I think we have got a really unique product and being very well received.”

Maybe this will convince the people at Headline News (HLN) to quit running “Forensics Files” and other crime shows that no one watches and return to its original format of 48 Half Hour Newscasts per day.
