WGN, Nexstar’s independent station in Chicago, recently launched, WGN News Now, digital-only newscasts at WGNTV.com/NewsNow and the WGN News mobile app.
WGN News Now provides news and weather updates each weekday at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. (en Español) and 3 p.m. CT.
Chip Brewster and Christine Flores, WGN News Now hosts, deliver the live coverage.
“WGN News Now was launched for our viewers who are looking for news when they are on the go,” says Dominick Stasi, WGN’s news director.
“It provides them with expanded coverage of news and breaking events, especially between 1 and 4 p.m., when WGN News is not live on the air. With News Now we will be able to cover breaking news and news conferences as needed, as well as allow stories to breathe and give them more time.”
In addition, the newscasts will provide original investigative, sports and feature reporting, including Chicago Scene, a WGN original digital series highlighting things to do and places to see in the Chicago area.
The station started promoting WGN News Now on June 1 within its regular newscasts when WGN News Now will have expanded coverage of a particular event or story.
In addition, the station is using mobile push alerts for the launch as well as running promotional bumps inside of news.
