KCRA, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Sacramento, Calif., spent 22 months investigating outrageous abuses of California’s unemployment system, which the station says is the worst taxpayer fraud in American history.

A devastating wildfire burning in California has claimed 42 lives, making it the deadliest in the state’s history. KCRA and KQCA held a disaster relief drive that raised more than $1,250,000 to support people impacted by the wildfires. “The devastation from the Butte County wildfire is just staggering,” said Lori Waldon, KCRA’s news director. “Most likely it will get worse.”
The NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates in Sacramento joined the Red Cross in a day-long telethon.
“Our telethon provided an important way for our viewers to help in a direct and meaningful way,” said KCRA’s news director.
“When people call in and say that they wish they could give more, it really touches our hearts,” said a rep from the Red Cross.
