“What people will see is graphics and a clearer presentation. These will make our stories and severe weather coverage easier to follow,” said Allison Smith, KCCI’s news director.
KCCI, Hearst’s CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, introduced a new set that features multiple large video display areas, an enhanced weather lab and dynamic lighting that can reflect types of coverage and time periods.
The renovation involved almost two years of planning to create an environment that features more video storytelling elements. The design was developed by Z-Space Creative in Orlando, Fla.
Contractors from Central Iowa aided in different aspects of the construction.
“Throughout the process our goal was to make sure our viewers gained a better understanding of the news of the day through how it is presented,” said Allison Smith, KCCI’s news director. “What people will see is graphics and a clearer presentation. These will make our stories and severe weather coverage easier to follow.”
“This new environment will immerse viewers in the story through its high-impact video presentation elements,” said Brian Sather, KCCI’s general manager.
“We are committed to investing in giving our team the tools need to speed viewers’ grasp of important information during everything from severe weather coverage, to morning traffic, to unpacking the complicated stories that happen every day.”
