Cheryl Burton, an anchor/reporter for ABC O&O WLS Chicago, presented Cheryl Burton Lindblom Scholarships to two students from her alma mater, Lindblom Math and Science Academy, during its commencement ceremony at Soldier Field.
Danielle Hester and Class President Marcus Beason each received $5,000 towards the college of their choice.
Hester, who will attend Columbia College, is a straight A student and an aspiring videographer.
Beason, Lindblom class president, will attend Morehouse College, where his father was also a student. He plays the trumpet and guitar as a jazz performer.
Burton started her scholarship in 2020, but because of the pandemic this is the first year she was able to award the scholarships and congratulate the recipients in person.
“It was pure joy to honor two such accomplished students from my alma mater with these scholarships — in person,” Burton says. “I asked all the graduates to dream beyond their ZIP code because it will ignite their passions and profoundly change their lives.”
