Bill Leslie’s last day doing the morning news on WRAL, Raleigh’s NBC affiliate owned by Capitol Broadcasting, is June 29. Leslie has been with Capitol Broadcasting on both radio and TV for 39 years, with 25 of those on the morning news.
After 25 years of helping viewers get their day going on WRAL, Leslie, I hope, is going to sleep in for a few days.
“Getting up before 2:30 a.m. can be tough, but after a cup of coffee, I am ready to go again,” said Leslie.
“I draw energy from my colleagues. They’re such great professionals and dear friends. They work so hard, they care so much, and they make me laugh.”

But before Leslie goes, all this week, he’ll be doing a Farewell Tour across the market so WRAL viewers can say goodbye in person. Leslie will be signing autographs, handing out some custom Bill Leslie merchandise and reminiscing with viewers and friends.
The week following the Farewell Tour, Leslie is back on the anchor desk for daily surprises and more greetings from viewers.
WRAL will also air a 30-minute special looking back at Bill’s distinguished broadcasting career.
Bill Leslie: An Extraordinary Career airs Thursday, June 28, at 7 p.m.
Here are some of Leslie’s favorite stories from his days at WRAL.
