The CBS-Fox combo earned two regional Emmy awards for coverage of an EF2 tornado. “For the second year in a row, this team has shown its commitment to breaking news, keeping folks safe and sharing stories that have impacted our viewers’ lives,” said Becky Gardner, KGAN-KFXA’s news director.
KGAN and KFXA, Sinclair’s CBS and Fox affiliates serving the Cedar Rapids/Waterloo/ Iowa City/Dubuque markets in Iowa, earned two regional from the Upper Midwest chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) which includes television stations in Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota.
KFXA earned an Emmy in the Breaking News category for its continuous news coverage from the scene and broadcasting live of the Prairieburg tornado, an EF2, that hit in June of 2017.

KGAN won an Emmy in the Weather-Program Special category for Parkersburg Tornado: In Their Own Words, a special which aired in May of 2018.
Survivors, city officials, forecasters and storm chasers say this event changed their lives forever.
