”Everyone’s situation is unique, but no one should feel alone,” says Brian Sather, KCCI’s GM. “Our goal is to connect people with others who want to help.”
KCCI, Hearst’s CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, is shining a light on Iowans in crisis all this week in its 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.
Partnering with local caregivers, and advocates, KCCI Cares: Wellness, Awareness, and Healing, will examine substance abuse, PTSD and resources for families. Other common issues will be explored on kcci.com including suicide prevention and help for children.
The stories and resources were gathered with the help of the National Alliance on Mental Health, Your Life Iowa and other private mental health providers.
“These issues cut across class, location, and background,” says Brian Sather, KCCI’s general manager.
”Everyone’s situation is unique, but no one should feel alone. Our goal is to connect people with others who want to help.”
“Groups who work in mental health in central Iowa say the need for their services continues to rise during the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Allison Smith, KCCI’s news director.
“After almost a year of living with COVID-19 and its impact on our everyday lives, we wanted to find a way to help people who may not know where to turn.”
