The new creative services director for WFLA, Nexstar’s NBC affiliate in Tampa, Fla., is no stranger to the Nexstar Nation. But he’s really new to Tampa. I caught up with Paul Spingola who’s just been on the ground there for three days since starting on Monday. Spingola is making the move to Tampa’s WFLA from another Nexstar station, WTNH, the ABC affiliate in Hartford-New Haven, Conn.
The new creative services director for WFLA, Nexstar’s NBC affiliate in Tampa, Fla., is no stranger to the Nexstar Nation. But he’s really new to Tampa.
I caught with Paul Spingola who’s just been on the ground there for three days since starting on Monday.
Spingola is making the move to Tampa’s WFLA from another Nexstar station, WTNH, the ABC affiliate in Hartford-New Haven, Conn.
Spingola worked at WTNH for almost 25 years (24 years, 11 months) as the director, marketing and digital media. He even did time as the interim general manager for four months there.
Spingola said the new position at WFLA was “open, we talked and that was it.”
Spingola is reuniting with Mark Higgins, WFLA’s general manager of just six months. Before the move, Higgins spent 10 years as general manager at WTNH.
“Marketing with Nexstar’s been great,” said Spingola. “There’s guidance and direction, and the CSDs at Nexstar are a pretty tight-knit group. A lot of us know each other well. During the entire transition, on all fronts, Nexstar’s been great.”
I don’t think Spingola will have much trouble adjusting to life in Tampa.
“I love golf, baseball, and I love the water,” he said.
NOTE: After talking to Paul, I went to find and share some recent examples from his time at WTNH in New Haven. I first saw a recent news story about how cold it is there now.
Then I found two recent news promos, one for their winter weather app and the other, a winter weather storm team promo. Given the weather in New Haven vs. what it is in Tampa right now, I see a pattern emerging here that may have influenced Paul’s decision.
