“We feel a program with trusted community leaders and health experts had a chance to better inform communities, especially ones of color about the facts surrounding the vaccine,” says Scott Duff, WSFA’s news director.
WSFA, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Montgomery, Ala., held an hour-long live special, The Fear, Facts, Future – the COVID-19 Vaccine Explained, to address skepticism about the COVID vaccine.

Scott Duff, WSFA’s news director says: “We feel a program with trusted community leaders and health experts had a chance to better inform communities, especially ones of color about the facts surrounding the vaccine.”
The event was held at the Municipal Complex in Tuskegee on the official one-year anniversary of the pandemic.
Alabama’s Chief Health Officer, Dr. Scott Harris, attended as well as medical experts and community leaders.
In addition, the program aired a one-on-one interview with Dr. James Hildreth, a member of President Biden’s COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force, who approved all the vaccines.
“His perspective as an African-American offered great insight and had an amazing message to the African-American Community,” Duff says.
“We got instant feedback from community who watched the special,” Duff adds, “and everyone was thrilled with the plain, common sense approach we offered.”
