WPTV’s 33rd annual Bill Brooks’ Food for Families Food Drive ended just before Thanksgiving. WPTV is the Scripps-owned NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Food totals are still coming in, but are expected to exceed last year’s 180,000 pounds of food donated.
All food collected is distributed to families in need in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.

In addition to on-air promos and newscast mentions, WPTV created a social challenge for its talent. The goal was to spread the donation message as widely as possible.
On-air talent recorded videos at home in which they challenged other talent and the community to donate canned goods. This fun challenge helped create buzz for the food drive.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this initiative as it helps unite the community and provides meals to those most in need,” said Lloyd Bucher, WPTV’s general manager. “There is no better way to kick off the holiday season than to give back in this important way.”
