“The team did a great job on social media,” said Wendy Bernier, KVLY’s creative services director, “relaying information about road closures, troubles facing state troopers, and the overall message of, stay home, stay safe and know conditions are dangerous. They tackled every closing and delay that came into the newsroom and kept viewers informed.”
A snow storm last weekend dumped up to 18 inches of snow on areas around Fargo, N.D. While you might expect a place like Fargo to get a lot of snow, the record is just 16 inches in one day, set back in 1982, which is why some are calling this the Snow Storm of the Decade.
The storm shut down interstates, led to hundreds of vehicle crashes and brought a metropolitan area of more than 200,000 people to a standstill on Monday morning, spurring the mayor to declare Monday a snow emergency.
KVLY, Gray’s NBC affiliate there, alerted its viewers before the weekend snows came, and was out in force during the storm.
Wendy Bernier, KVLY’s creative services director, said during the storm “the newsroom covered fires, power outages, how to utilize our weather app, and did all of this in impossible driving conditions and cold temps.”

“The team did a great job on social media,” Bernier added, “relaying information about road closures, troubles facing state troopers and the overall message of, stay home, stay safe and know conditions are dangerous. They tackled every closing and delay that came into the newsroom and kept viewers informed.”
