“We want viewers to see our people how we get to see them every day behind the scenes — down-to-earth and personable,” says Heath Benfield, promotion manager for WFXT, Cox’s Fox affiliate in Boston.

Heath Benfield, promotion manager for WFXT, Cox’s Fox affiliate in Boston, says his team has been helping develop content for some of the station’s on-air talents’ individual social media accounts.
“On-air talent are one-of-a-kind differentiators who can extend our brand in ways we just can’t do on TV alone,” he says. “We believe TV and digital content are not mutually exclusive. It can all work together to provide a unique experience for our audience no matter how or where they watch us.”
Elizabeth Hopkins, WFXT’s morning news anchor, wrote, shot and edited this piece to celebrate Earth Day.
Benfield says the primary goals are to reveal a more intimate side of the station’s talent than viewers typically see on TV.
Mark Ockerbloom, WFXT’s evening anchor has a nightly coffee routine:
“Recent research has shown that trust in news media is regrettably eroding,” Benfield says . “So, how do we win back that trust? By being real, authentic and relatable. We want viewers to see our people how we get to see them every day behind the scenes — down-to-earth and personable.”
Vanessa Welch, WFXT’s evening anchor, and WFXT’s meteorologist Jason Brewer are married. Here they offer a slice of their life at home and a little weather forecast, too.

Benfield credits Karen Levy, WFXT’s CSD, and Rebecca Thornburg, a new member of the creative services team, for their help in collaborating with talent to create these pieces for social media
Benfield says Levy “recognizes the value in extending our brand through our online efforts.”
And Thornburg, says Benfield, has been “a huge driver in how we are developing our strategy.”
