WBAL, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Baltimore, is airing two specials back-to-back on Saturday night starting at 8.
To Be An American: Identity, Race and Justice, airs first and will be followed by an encore presentation of the critically acclaimed Project Community: Building A Better Baltimore at 9. This program features discussions of the problems facing Baltimore City and solutions offered by community leaders.

Viewers will be taken on a tour across the middle of the country from Denver to Kansas City on I-70 to meet and engage some of the diverse cross-section of Americans that help define the nation. They will also be asked to consider the ways our diverse country interprets “belonging” and “allegiance.”
“As local broadcasters, it is our responsibility to be the voice for the voiceless,” says Dan Joerres, WBAL’s general manager.
“We are hopeful that through incredible storytelling, we will be able to help close the racial divide in our society by further educating and inspiring.”
